It seems that, from around 8:30 onthe morning of Friday the 12th November, the server that hosts our site, experienced an unexpectedly high amount of traffic, and couldn’t cope. The server is hosted in the UK by Namesco, and was unresponsive at various times during the day. When it was up-and-running, it was very sluggish and producing timeouts. From what we can see, the server finally fell over at around 8:50pm and was out until midnight.
We’ve only been able to access our blog this afternoon to let you know what’s gone on. (Thanks to Rob at Namesco Support for the mysql restart!)
From looking at our stats, we were only able to serve about 50% of our normal volume yesterday:
Today, we seem to be in better shape. It’s not clear if Namesco has worked some magic today, or the mysterious high traffic has wandered off to torment someone else today.
We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to our site visitors and advertisers as a result of this unforeseen ‘bad day’.
We’d ask Radio and Telly regulars to bookmark our Twitter feed (or follow us on Twitter) -We were using this successfully yesterday to give status updates.
Thanks for bearing with us.
