We’ve just had reports that Sky is planning to pull Sky Sports News from the Freeview lineup. The sports channel will be replaced by a “+1” timeshifted version of the Sky Three channel.
The removal of Sky Sports News from Freeview is expected to occur later in 2010 (exact date not confirmed)
I am unable to get SSN – has the plug already been puuled?
Regards
i think this a bad day for Freeview if one of the best channels is leaving us with NO DEDICATED FREE TO AIR CHANNEL FREEVIEW is going down concentrating too much on HD development rather than increasing at same time standard defination I like to see the following come to Freevew when space if ever is available Not everyone especaially on low incomes can afford sky or want Top Up Tv . Top Up Tv especially should be obliged at same time to put channels on Freeview
1 Eurosport 1 OR 2 OR Sports news ideal replacement for Sky’s
2 UK GOLD
3 WATCH
4 ESPN
5 ANOTHER FILM CHANNEL 24 HOURS IE TCM
6 CNN GO 24 HOURS
7 NO MORE SHOPPING OR BABE CHANNELS AXE ALL BABE CHANNELS
i’ll not miss SSN but needs to be replaced with somthing other than a ‘+1’ channel. good riddence to bad rubbish!
very disappointed to learn that sky sports news is leaving freeview .why
is this being allowed to happen its the only channel on freeview
worth watching.will particularly miss the saturday afternoon and evening
coverage.(guess its to cajole us into subscribing)-freeview does not
seem to care less about the viewers,i don’t know why it bothers.
Barry – This isn’t Freeview’s fault. Sky has decided that it wants to offer this channel on subscription only – i.e to make more money for Sky. It’s Sky you should be angry with, not Freeview. Perhaps make a complaint to Sky?
Instead of removing the only dedicated sports news channel on freeview, why not remove BBC Parliment? It has got to be the most boring channell on freeview with hardly any viewers.
I agree wholeheartedly with Dean’s comments: UK Gold or another film channel would be great. I think it’s a shame that the BBC had to take their Multiscreen off Freeview as well and that ITV took Teletext off air. The viewer seemes to be getting less choice, but hopefully things will improve. Enjoy whatever you’re watching.
The simple answer to this is to buy sky, Sky sports news is part of the sports pack and should only be available to sky subscribers.
dont see why people who do not have sky should have the enjoyment of sky sports news. Free view is a waste of time and mind numbing full of repeats and crap programmes, this should lead the challenge of abolishing the tv license!!!
I am hearing of more and more people leaving Sky because it’s too expensive and in to days climate they simply cannot afford it. This is a move by Sky to force their customers to stay with them. I think Sky are getting too big for their boots and have to much of a monopoly. We pay our licence fee and then have to pay again for Sky.
As far as Freeveiw being “a waste of time” some of us cant afford anything else!!
@Tony Franks-Buckley – “Free view is a waste of time and mind numbing full of repeats and crap programmes”
You seriously believe Sky isn’t (once you take out the premium stuff you’re overpaying for)..?
Typical of Sky. They used the freeview platform to build an audience now want to charge them the privilege for paying for 10 minutes worth of news (hosted by second rate presenters) and 50 minutes of adverts.
This is Sky shooting themselves in the foot “Big Time”.
I am an aerial/Satellite man, many of my customers enjoy
S S News on “Freeview” Many have Sky already but watch S P News via “Freeview” on a second or third TV.
Sky really have not done their homework or market research with this one.
Simple,”Sky Sports News” is a flag ship of a channel on “Freeview”.
But not big enough for viewers to buy “Sky” once it disappears from
this platform. Pointless exercise. R S Webb (Swindon)
Its absolute ridiculous them taking that channel off us some people can’t afford to buy subscription tv that was our only sport channel bet they still advertise on it and make money that way as well
