Broadband provider TalkTalk is set to re-enter the digital TV market, offer a combined Freeview plus Internet TV service.
After having suspended its last TV service (originally Tiscali TV) to new customers last year, TalkTalk has unwrapped details of the new offering. As one of the partners of the YouView project, they will be offering a free YouView set-top box, which would otherwise cost you £300.
The service is officially “coming soon” with an expected availability of “Autumn 2012” being the likely date, we’re told
What does TalkTalk TV Offer?
- Freeview channels
- 7 day catch-up service
- A YouView box (worth £300)
- Over 5,000 movies and TV shows on-demand
- A 12 month subscription to LOVEFiLM instant (worth £60)
- Optional Sky Movies and Sky Sports (all 4 sports channels)
The price?
Pretty competitive! You need to be on TalkTalk’s Plus package, which gives you phone and broadband. The TV service is bundled in as part of this, meaning that the entry price is £14.50, plus £9.50 line rental… £24 a month. We understand that install is likely to cost a one-off £50 for an engineer visit.
Extra services, such as Sky Movies, Sky Sports and ESPN will be available as “boosts”, and you’ll be able to take these out on a month-by-month basis, so no 12-month subscription for these extra service

We’ll also be updating our TalkTalk TV page with a review of the service as soon as we can.
New service Fine if you live in a city, not so good if like myself and many others live in the countryside two miles from the nearest town and are unable to get a constant download speed without major buffering issues. Perhaps these companies could help and invest in the infrastructur instead of thinking of more ways of fleecing us without actually providing any enhancement to the service/speed they say they provide.
